LIMA — The Allen County Fairgrounds was host Thursday to the kick-off dinner for the 159th Allen County Fair.
Allen County Agricultural Society Manager Jay Begg announced that the Junior Fair royalty would be crowned at 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 in the Youth Activities Building instead of at the dinner as in years past.
The candidates include: Aaron Sommers, a graduate of Allen East; William Corbett, graduate of Apollo; Amanda Burris, graduate of Shawnee; Samantha Conley, graduate of Allen East; Lacey Houston, student at Bath; Breanna Stover, student at Allen East; Lynelle Troyer, graduate of Elida; and Kaley Core, student at Spencerville.
Also recognized at the dinner were this year’s Allen County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame Inductees James C. Blair, Robert Core and William “Bill” Fricke.
Blair, an attorney, contributed greatly to the success of the Allen County Agricultural Society through his pro bono legal services and dedication to the society’s mission.
Core, involved with the Allen County Fair for six decades, served in many capacities including Junior Fair Advisor, Junior Fair Livestock Superintendent, helping organize the Spencerville Livestock Boosters and working behind the scenes of the Junior Fair Livestock Auction, and much more.
Fricke was named the 2006 Outstanding Allen County Fair Supporter and performed many services for the Agricultural Society for more than 45 years and dedicated a large amount of time to the Junior Fair and Open Class Exhibitors.
Along with the crowning of the Junior Fair Royalty, the ribbon-cutting and Kewpee Showcase of Bands will also take place at 7 p.m. on Aug. 21 in the grandstand.
