Teman ‘Mayor of Marbletown’
DELPHOS — Susie Teman will serve as mayor of Marbletown for the upcoming festival that begins on July 31 with the Little Miss Marbletown Pageant at Delphos Wesleyan Church.
Teman will be sworn in prior to the pageant so she can crown the winner.
Teman turn in $716 or 716 votes to win the “election.”
Other duties of the mayor will include firing the gun at the start of the Marbletown 5-K, awarding the winners of the Marble Cake Bake-off and appearing as parade marshal in the Marbletown Parade on Aug. 1.
A total of $905 was raised by all candidates, including Ette Belle Culp and Chris Boop. Both were gracious losers.
Festival coordinator Kathy Gengler congratulated Teman and said the money raised would help pay for the concrete floor of the new shelterhouse at Garfield Park.
The shelterhouse is up and the concrete may be poured today.
The structure will be dedicated at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 1 just prior to Magic by Jordan at 2:30 p.m.
Little Miss Marbletown contestants can register at the church beginning at 6 p.m. July 31. The pageant for girls ages 4-7 will begin at 7 p.m. Contestants are responsible for providing their dress and props. They will be judged in four areas: dress, talent, questions and answers and cooperation. The cost to enter is $1.
Little Miss Marbletown must also be available to ride in the parade and for any function during the festival the committee deems necessary.
Registration forms for the Marbletown 5-K will be available at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 1. The race will begin at 8 a.m. Registration is $15 with a T-shirt (while supplies last) and $12 with no T-shirt.
Age groups include: 14 and under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; and 55 and over. Awards will be given to the top male and female overall and the top male and female in each age The race will begin at St. John’s Annex and follow Annex Drive to South Clay Street and proceed to Southworth Road (Bredeick Street) then up to Cleveland Street, turning on South Jefferson and returning to the annex.
Items for the General Store to be held in the church are still needed. Rubber band guns, jacks and marble bags, crocheted items, bread, pies, jellies and other crafts and baked goods have been promised. Contact Kathy Gengler for items needed.
Entries for the Marble Cake Bake-off need to be at the church from 8-9 a.m. Aug. 1 with judging at 9 a.m. The Delphos Ladies Club is in charge of the cake bake.
Items available to commemorate the event include Marbletown calendars, T-shirts and can cozies.
The menu at the food tent in Garfield Park includes: corn dogs, hot dogs, brats, root beer floats, Marbletown steak, nachos and cheese, Canal lemonade, pop and water. Another food booth will be set up at the corner of Clime and Hudson.
Anyone who would like to participate in the Marbletown Jam Session at 3 p.m. Aug. 1 are asked to contact Jim Knebel at 419-695-2247. Performers will be given a time slot as the festival nears.
