State OKs park shelterhouse plans

DELPHOS — Marbletown Festival Committee members received good news during Thursday’s meeting. Bob Ulm relayed the plans for the shelterhouse to be built at Garfield Park have been approved by the state and he is waiting for the electrical plans to be approved.
Tom Siefker and his Boy Scout Troop will be in charge of constructing the 36 x 28 structure that will sit just east of the existing asphalt at the park. The shelterhouse will be placed on a concrete pad and be handicap-accessible. It will also have electricity and in the future, the festival committee hopes — restrooms.
Ulm said the Core Engineer Group in Spencerville were invaluable in making the shelterhouse a reality for this year.
If completed, a dedication ceremony for the shelterhouse will take place during the festival.
Susie Teman seems to be a shoo-in candidate for “Marbletown Mayor for a Day.” Teman has turned in $82, or 82 votes, to Marbletown Festival Committee members and was keeping her additional “vote” count close to her vest Thursday evening.
“I have more votes to turn in but I want to wait a little bit and see how the other candidates are doing,” Teman said.
The campaign camps of her rivals, Etta Belle Culp and Chris Boop, have been quiet for the last several weeks.
All votes are to be turned in by July 23, the next meeting date.
Duties of the “mayor for a day” will include crowning Little Miss Marbletown on July 31, shooting the gun to start the Marbletown 5-K at 8 a.m.; awarding prizes at the Marble Cake Bake Off; and serving as parade marshal in the Marbletown Parade.
The “Little Miss Marbletown” pageant will begin at 7 p.m. July 31 at Delphos Wesleyan Church.
