German visitors tour Delphos

germans-sj.jpgMayor Michael Gallmeier greeted German visitors Bernhard Birke and his son, Cauldius, on a visit to Delphos Monday. The pair were hosted by Delphos resident Bob Ebbeskotte and were on their way to New Melle, Mo. While Delphos was settled by Catholics from the area of Melle, Germany, where Birke is from, the Missouri community was settled by Protestants from the same region. The pair also visited St. John’s High School, where they met Principal Don Huysman. On Sunday, they toured the Delphos Canal Commission Museum, downtown, the Hempfling Dairy Farm and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
