Delphos K-9 Program receives $2,000 donation

Delphos K-9 cop Iggy sports his new bullet-resistant/stab-resistant vest purchased with a donation to the K-9 program. The Delphos Police Department also purchased a full-body bite suit to assist in Iggy’s training. The Delphos Police Department K-9 program recently received a $2,000 donation from the Walmart on Cable Road in Lima.
K-9 Officer Chad Haunhorst received the donation and said the money was utilized to purchase a bullet-resistant/stab-resistant vest for the K-9. Also purchased was a full-body bite suit. This suit is utilized for training. The “suspect” wears the suit, which allows the K-9 to bite the “suspect” in nearly any location, with very little risk of injury to the role player. This suit offers an alternative over the traditional bite sleeve which only allows the K-9 to bite one arm of the role player. In real life, a suspect may become aggressive and attempt to assault the K-9 in a number of ways. Full bite suit training allows the K-9 to be conditioned to appropriately respond to these types of situations.
The money has also been used to purchase food and other smaller training accessories for the K-9 program.
The Delphos Police Department K-9 program is funded by donations. Anyone who wishes to donate to the program can be assured their contribution will go directly to the K-9 program and will not be used for any other purpose.
Anyone who wishes to donate may contact Chief Kyle Fittro or Officer Haunhorst at 419-692-4015.
