FFA raises awareness, funds for those less fortunate

cardboard-city.jpgOn June 22, the Delphos FFA held its first summer FFA meeting with nearly 40 members in attendance. The June meeting is centered around an activity called Cardboard City in which FFA members raise awareness and funds for those less fortunate by sleeping in cardboard boxes on the school lawn. During the business portion of the meeting, members were updated on summer activities and SAE visits. Aaron Griffith, the executive director of Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Lima, also spoke to the students about what their funds would be used for and why it is important to give to those that are less fortunate.  There were more than 20 FFA members that spent the night and participated in the evening’s activities. Activities included a box decorating contest and a scavenger hunt. Brenda Hoersten organized the scavenger hunt and Tonya Etgen helped chaperone. They raised $741 for the soup kitchen.  This will allow the soup kitchen to feed close to 250 people for a day. The activities this year were organized by Lyndzi Hoersten and Dulton Moore. Cardboard City Committee chair and officers present were, from left, Lyndzi Hoersten, Adam Kroeger, Dustin Nye, Chad Hoersten, Cory Osting, Wes Kroeger, Jenna Faurot, and in the box, Griffith from Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.
