Kimmet promoted to sergeant

Delphos Safety Service Director Greg Berquist, left, Delphos Chief of Police Kyle Fittro, second from right, and Mayor Mike Gallmeier, right, congratulate newly-appointed Police Sergeant Ryan Kimmet on his promotion.DELPHOS — Patrolman Ryan Kimmet was promoted to sergeant Thursday afternoon to fill the position left by now-Delphos Police Chief Kyle Fittro.
Mayor Mike Gallmeier swore Kimmet in before his family, Safety Service Director Greg Berquist and Fittro.
Kimmet said it has always been his goal to be more than a road officer.
“I really enjoy guiding and teaching young officers,” Kimmet said. “We have new hires quite often and I really like working with them to learn the ropes and train them.”
Kimmet is also enjoying working under the new chief.
“I’m excited with the direction the police department is going under Chief Fittro and the atmosphere is a good one. Morale is very important in our jobs,” Kimmet said. “Another duty of a sergeant is to make sure their ‘troops’ are enjoying their jobs so they do them well.”
Kimmet started his career in law enforcement shortly after leaving the military, obtaining his certification with the Ohio Peace Officers Training Commission in 1995. He worked part-time for the Delphos department until his full-time hire in 1998.
He is currently assigned to the patrol division and has also worked as a narcotics agent with the regional narcotics task force.
Kimmet holds a degree in police science from Hocking College and is a member of the Delphos Police Department’s Special Response Team and is a firearm’s instructor.
Kimmet will assume his duties as a sergeant on Monday.
