Lima Elks host annual Youth Banquet

The Lima Elks Lodge 54 awarded “Student of The Year” honors to Joel Jackson, a senior at Elida High School, for the 2008-2009 school year.
Jackson, the son of Ron and Marsha Jackson,  received a $1,000 savings bond and a certificate of recognition.
He holds a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Lima Junior Golf Association, WLIO Television Scholar Athlete of the Week, National Honor Society and is an all out scholar. He is very active in his church and his community. His future goal is to become a mechanical engineer and specialize in energy efficient transportation.
The Elks Youth Banquet is held each year during Elks National Youth Week to honor those youth and their parents that have placed in an Elks-sponsored activity. Father David Ross, of St. Rose and St. John’s in Lima was the keynote speaker. Also, a proclamation was presented by Lima Mayor David Burger commending the Lima Elks for their work with the youth of the community.

February 2009 — Rachel Illig – Lima, Zachary Dunn – Harrod

April 2009 — Brittany Miller – Delphos, Victoria Recker – Delphos
Each Student of the Month received a $100 savings bond and a certificate of achievement.

The topic of the essay was “What Freedom Means to Me.” Each winner received a $100 savings bond and a certificate of recognition.
