Apollo School of Practical Nursing to graduate 17

Seventeen students will receive their Practical Nursing certificate from Apollo Career Center during a graduation ceremony set at 5:30 p.m Wednesday at Apollo Career Center.
The students come from cities across West Central Ohio and have successfully completed the intensive 10-month program. It includes both classroom study and supervised patient care.
Classroom study covers basic nursing concepts and patient care-related subjects, fundamental skills with hands on lab experience, anatomy and physiology, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, the administration of medications, pharmacology and nutrition.
Prior to graduating, students participate in a preceptorship. They spend an intensive 48-hours with a nurse to orient to their new career. Clinical practice usually takes place in hospitals and nursing homes.
Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) care for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled patient under the direction of physicians and registered nurses.
In addition to providing bedside care, LPNs in nursing care facilities help to care for residents, contribute to the development of individualized care plans, and supervise the care provided by nursing aides. In doctors’ offices and clinics, they may perform various nursing duties and assist the physician with procedures and teaching.
