Celina wins battle
of winless teams

ELIDA — In a matchup of two teams that have yet to win a football game in 2008, Celina downed Elida 34-13 at Kraft Memorial Stadium Friday night in a battle of Western Buckeye League Bulldogs.
Celina (1-6, 1-5 WBL) got touchdowns on a 15-yard scoring pass (4:39 of the first period), a 61-yard aerial (3:21 of the second, along with a 2-point conversion pass), a 1-yard run (9:04 of the third), a 3-yard run (4:30 of the third) and an 8-yard tote (2:45 of the third).
Elida scored at 9:28 of the second period on a 2-yard run by Desmond Ragin, with Nathan Jenkins hitting the extra point; and at 1:35 of the third on an 11-yard pass from Alex McAdams to Michael Knotts.

Elida is at Defiance Friday.

Roughriders stay perfect

VAN WERT — St. Marys Memorial stayed on a trek for the Western Buckeye League football title with a 34-6 triumph over Van Wert Friday night at Egerss Stadium.
The Roughriders (7-0, 6-0 WBL) rolled up five rushing touchdowns en route to 388 yards on the ground (40 tries) and one passing TD (3-of-6, 18 yards).
Van Wert’s Austin Fleming went 19-of-31 passing for 174 yards (5 to Nate Williams for 92 yards) in place of Tim Hoverman, who did not play.
Conner Massillo ran for 43 of the Cougars’ (3-4, 3-3 WBL) total of 62 (28 attempts).
Van Wert is at Ottawa-Glandorf a week from now.

Jefferson frosh unbeaten
DELPHOS —  The Jefferson freshmen football team raised its record to 6-0 with at 27-8 win over LCC at Stadium Park.
After a goal-line stand by the Wildcats at the end of the second quarter, both teams went into the locker rooms with a 0-0 tie.
The Wildcats opened up the second half with a 50-yard run by Curtis Miller to the 2 yard line; he finished the drive from there. The extra point was no good.
The Wildcats’ second score came off a blocked punt. Nick Dunlap then went 35 yards on a sweep to make it 12-0; Miller ran the extra point in for a 14-0 score.
LCC sustained a nice drive in the fourth quarter and added their extra point to make it 14-8 with seven minutes to go in the game.
The Wildcats had a 5-minute drive with Miller finishing it with a 12-yard run; the extra point was no good.
LCC fumbled the ball on its next possession and Miller picked it up for a 35-yard score; Dunlap added the extra point by foot to make it 27-8.
Tony George forced two fumbles with Justin Rode recovering one.
The defense played extremely well. The secondary of Evan Neubert, Max Giller, A.J. Teman, Shayne Klinger and Jeff Schleeter did an excellent job covering the pass.
Darren Edinger and Kellen Elwer blocked well for the offensive run attack.
The Wildcats’ next game is Monday night vs. Columbus Grove at Stadium Park. Start time is 5 p.m.
