Ned E. Kantner

Ned E. Kantner, 85, of Spencerville, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday at his residence.
He was born March 7, 1923, in Wapakoneta, to Louis and Ida (Dieringer) Kantner.
On Oct. 2, 1947, he married Betty Anne Wienken, who survives.
Other survivors include daughter Laura (Mike) Riley of Spencerville; brothers Roy (Lois) Kantner of Wapakoneta and Forest (Betty) Kantner of Bluffton; sisters Helen Cummins of Wapakoneta, Anna Mae Hunt (Jim) McKinley of Lima and Faye Eley of Lima; sisters-in-law Virginia Wienken of Spencerville, Marcella (Don) Dieringer of Lima, Shirley Hamilton of Delphos and Joan McClintock of Spencerville; several nieces and nephews; and grandchildren Matthew Kantner and Patricia Riley of Spencerville.
He was preceded in death by sisters Verdean Etgen, Leona Watercutter and Dolores Rable; and brothers-in-law Dick and Bill Wienken.
Mr. Kantner retired in 1987 from the former Nameplate and Monogram/Hayes-Albion Corporation as a metal buffer after 38 years of service. He held membership with St. Patrick Catholic Church, the VFW Men’s Auxiliary and Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Association. He enjoyed playing euchre at the VFW and coon hunting.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, the Rev. John Fleck officiating. Burial will follow in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where a parish wake will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or St. Rita’s Hospice.
