Landeck Foresters 100
LANDECK — The Landeck Foresters, formerly the Landeck Catholic Knights of Ohio, Branch 76, are celebrating 100 years this month.
The group was originally chartered as the Landeck Catholic Knights of Ohio, Branch 76, on Oct. 27, 1908, with 15 members. In September 2007, the Catholic Knights of Ohio merged with the Catholic Order of Foresters and there are now 413 adult and 64 juvenile members.
The thrust of the program is to offer insurance benefits to its members. But the organization is much more than that, according to member Dan Wiechart.
“The fellowship is what keeps people in the branch,” Wiechart said. “Everyone enjoys getting together and talking.”
Landeck is also one of the few courts fortunate enough to have its own meeting hall. The Catholic Knights of Ohio hall was built in 1912. The hall is also available for rental.
To commemorate their 100th anniversary, the Foresters are selling ceramic replicas of the St. John the Baptist Church in Landeck. Orders for the church can be placed with any Forester.
A brunch will be served from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday at the Forester Hall on Landeck Road. There will also be memorabilia on display.
Proceeds from the brunch will be used to establish a scholarship fund for members’ children.
