Jeffcats net sweep of Panthers

The Delphos Herald

DELPHOS — Jefferson’s volleyball team has had its share of sweeps so far this season.
Add another one to the list.
The Lady Wildcats took the broom out and used it on Paulding to the tune of 25-13, 25-11, 25-22 Tuesday night at Jefferson Senior High School.
“I thought the girls played real well tonight. We had a lot of girls play well tonight,” Jefferson coach Diane Wilson remarked. “I thought Stacey Blockberger was really into the game and Mallorie (Wilson) and Steph (Blockberger) hit the ball hard at the net. The girls were moving to the ball and going after everything. It looked like the girls were having fun. We played with some intensity and we had some spark to us for a change.”
Wilson (13 kills; 12 blocks; 3 digs; 7-for-7 serving) led the effort for the Jeffcats (9-1, 1-1 NWC), while Steph Blockberger (11 kills; 1 block; 2 digs; 12-for-13 serving) and (Stacey Blockberger (3 kills; 4 blocks; 4 digs) did their share.
“The girls served very consistently again tonight,” Wilson continued. “We only missed one serve. The first two games the girls were clicking and playing as a team. We definitely controlled the game by our net play.”
Other contributors to the overall effort were Ashley Watkins (4 kills; 4 blocks; 5 digs; 15-for-15 serving, 1 ace), Jenna Miller (2 kills; 3 blocks; 5 digs; 5-for-5 serving), Bridget Culp (6 kills; 1 dig), Kristin Klausing (11 digs; 19-for-19 serving, 1 ace) and Courtnie Rostorfer (2 digs; 13-for-13 serving, 4 aces).
“I subbed way too early the third game and took the girls out of their rhythm; it took the girls out of their flow,” Wilson added. “They didn’t play as well with different girls in and it showed by the score. Overall, this was one of our best games I think the girls have played. It was like they played in the summer.”
The JVs (7-5, 1-1 NWC) also won: 20-25, 25-10, 25-14.
Jefferson visits Spencerville Thursday (6 p.m. JV start).
