Family fun and entertainment at Ottoville Park Carnival

Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band is the featured entertainment at the 46th annual Ottoville Park Carnival to be held Saturday and Sunday. The band will perform on Sunday from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Admission is free.
Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band combine the tropical sounds of Caribbean rock, reggae and calypso by pouring great original music along with songs by Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Paul Simon, Sublime, Jerry Jeff Walker, and many more into a musical blender to create a strong concoction direct from the lower latitudes!
From steel pans to blaring horns, strong percussion to driving bass to skanking guitars, the Beach Bum Band has a fun and danceable sound that appeals to all ages.
Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band has been throwing beach parties to enthusiastic crowds in venues from Nebraska to Rhode Island, from Minnesota to Key West, from community festivals to college campuses to Parrothead gatherings to Alpine Valley, Tweeter Center, and Target Center as the pre-show entertainment for Jimmy Buffett concerts and even on stage several times with Buffett as his backup band. Now they are coming to Ottoville.
The Beach Bum Band has been performing with Jimmy Buffett for his charity appearances in the Eastern U.S. as part of his Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant openings since 2003. The Beach Bums have performed favorites such as “Margaritaville,” “Five O’Clock Somewhere,” “Fins,” and “Volcano” on stage with Buffett himself.
On Saturday, the crowd will see another addition to the Carnival’s attractions with their first annual lawn mower race. The race  will start at 5 p.m. and admission is free to spectators. While watching the racers, attendees can enjoy some chicken wings from the Wing Cook-Off.
The two-day carnival will begin at noon on Saturday with its first ever Corn Hole Tournament and an OSU Tailgate  Party  in  the  beer tent.
People interested in participating in the Corn Hole Tournament can sign up the day of the event for only $5 a couple.
Another big attraction taking place on Saturday is the third annual Lip Sync Contest. This  year’s  contest  has  a lower entrance fee and has been divided into two age groups — under 18, and 18 and over. Contestants must be pre-registered to participate. First and second place prizes will be awarded in each age group.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday with Bob Weber as the emcee. Some of the parade units will include floats, antique and new tractors and cars, high school marching band units, clowns, fire trucks and EMS vehicles, youth groups, civic organizations and local, county and state elected government officials.
The crowning of the Ottoville Park Carnival Queen will be held before the parade at 12:15 p.m.  Three ladies are in the running for the crown — Lindsay Bendele, Brittany Beining and Danielle Rellinger.
Other events taking place on Sunday include a Dodgeball tournament and the Battle of the Businesses.
There will also be a variety of rides and booths both days for everyone to enjoy including an X-treme Trampoline, mechanical bull, rock climbing wall, bingo tent, children’s store, concessions, baked goods booth and much more.
A Weber Grill along with an Omaha Steak gift certificate will be raffled off on Sunday. A big ticket drawing and a number of 50/50 drawings will also be held at the festival.
Beer, pop, and food will be sold on the Ottoville Park Carnival grounds. Carry-in beverages are not allowed. Proceeds from the carnival benefit the Ottoville Park and park programs.
