Jays 4th, Kalida 10th, Elida 11th at Celina invite
CELINA — Minster easily outdistanced second-place Van Buren 311-327 to cop the 21-team Celina Invitational boys golf meet Friday at Fox’s Den Golf Club in Celina.
St. John’s ended up fourth (337), Kalida 10th (354) and Elida 11th (356) in the meet.
Brandon Hemker shot a 79 for the Blue Jays, followed by 82s from Brad Wannemacher and Drew Fischer, a 94 from Eric Bergfeld and a 96 by Ryan Fischer.
Shawnee (336) came in third. Van Wert (339) was fifth, followed by Celina and Napoleon (341), St. Marys Memorial (351) and Wapak (353).
After Elida was Greeneville (357), Versailles (358), Sidney Lehman (367), St. Henry (371), Defiance and Coldwater (373), Fort Loramie (388), Marion Local (404), Ottawa-Glandorf (412) and Bath (447).
St. John’s and Kalida are in the Allen East Invitational 9 a.m. Monday at Lost Creek Country Club. Elida begins Western Buckeye League action that night by hosting Celina (4:30 p.m.).
Van Wert takes on Coldwater and Parkway 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Napoleon owns own meet
NAPOLEON — The Napoleon girls tennis team dominated the other four squads in the Napoleon Invitational held Friday.
The host Wildcats had 20 points, followed by 6 from Elida, 3 from Wauseon, 2 from Archbold and 1 from Springfield Holland.
In singles, Elida sophomore Jessie Adkins lost to Napoleon’s Mackenzie Eickhoff 6-3, 7-5 after dispatching Jamie Donaldson (Springfield) 6-2, 6-1 in the semis.
In “A” doubles, the doubles team of seniors Jessica Stambaugh and Amy Sarno crunched S-H’s Linda Tim and Stacy Breedlove 0 and 0 but fell to Napoleon’s Meredith Small and Morgan Westhoven 6-2, 6-1 in the semis.
At “B” doubles, senior Amanda Brickner and sophomore Emily Fernandez ousted the Archbold team before being beaten 1 and 2 by Wauseon’s Catie Savage and Sarah Vietmeier.
In the “C” doubles, sophomores Caitie Kales and Kassidee Fletcher outlasted Springfield-Holland 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the semis but lost to Kate Friesen and Rachel Krueger of Napoleon 2 and 1 in the title match.
Elida opens Western Buckeye League action Monday at Celina. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
