Historical society to present ‘Pieces of our Past
The Allen County Historical Society will present children’s program “Pieces of Our Past” at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Children’s Discovery Center at the Allen County Museum, 620 W. Market St., Lima.
Many fortunate people have had quilts handed down to them from parents and grandparents. More than just blankets to keep us warm on winter nights, quilts are works of art that have been lovingly stitched with designs, motifs, dates, and other personal information. Some of the quilts of former slaves even contained hidden messages about the escape to freedom.
“Pieces of Our Past” will focus on quilting and its history as an art and life skill. In this hands-on workshop children will make a paper quilt of their own personal history.
Presented by the museum’s education staff — Sarah Rish, Karen Jones and Lisa Weaver — this program is recommended for grades 3-5.
Parent, grandparent, or caregiver assistance required.
The cost of participation is $5 per child for Historical Society members and $6 for non-members.
Pre-registration required. Space is limited.
This program conforms to Ohio school curriculum guidelines. Contact Sarah Rish at 419-222-9426 or e-mail srishsrish@yahoo.com.
