4-H club writes troops
On July 24, the Venedocia Lads & Lassies 4-H Club held a meeting.
The pledges were led by Evan Pugh. The club also celebrated Pugh’s 11th birthday and shared fun events from camp.
Many in the club qualified for the Ohio State fair including, Trina Pohlman, Ryan Dickman and Julie Dickman in cooking; Chelsey Lloyd in advanced sewing; and Evan Pugh in bicycle safety. Peter McCollow qualified in self-determined and Chance Campbell in genealogy.
The Lads & Lassies wrote to the troops in Iraq and sent care packages consisting of toothpaste, body wash, trail mix, propel and Gatorade powder.
Doug Ruen from the Venedocia Lions club attended the meeting; the Lions club generously donated $250 to this project. The Venedocia Lads & Lassies donated $150 and the Salem Presbyterian Church paid for the shipping of the care packages.
Demonstrations given were by Parker Campbell on gun safety, Chance Campbell on genealogy, Justin Burnett on blade sharpening and Kaitlynn Kroeger on showing rabbits.
Betty Vorst, a Cloverbud, showed her quarter collection from her Discovery 2 project and Elizabeth Mitchener demonstrated how to make a bird feeder from her Discovery 3 project.
The health report was given by Tara Vorst on calorie intake. Elizabeth Regadance gave the safety report on swimming safety.
The next meeting will be held Aug. 21.
