Eagle Print hopes to add more jobs

Workers started installing the new press at Eagle Print on July 11.DELPHOS — Keeping up with any respective industry’s trends can be especially difficult when an economy is in recession. Despite tight financial waistbelts, one local company is adding technology it hopes will translate into expansion and bring more jobs to the community.
Eagle Print recently spent more than $1 million to replace a printing press with a larger one that updates the organization’s technological capabilities.
General Manager Jeff Easterday envisions a bright future due to the company’s investment.
“By bringing more technology to Eagle Print, we want to bring in more business so we can hopefully expand and add jobs,” he said. “This is a general web press that will add three new units to the old equipment we’re keeping. This will do the work of four presses and enable us to print more color and more pages with greater effeciency than ever before. It will simply do the job better and faster.”
The equipment was brought in on three semi-trailers and installation began July 10. Easterday expects it to take flight around Aug. 18.
He believes adding a press fits in to a larger picture and does not only benefit Eagle Print.
“More pages and more color is what our industry is going to and this equipment will enable us to remain competitive; this isn’t just about Eagle Print — it’s about Delphos,” he said.
Business Manager Ray Geary also looks to stabilize jobs as the company remains competitive.
“This investment will stabilize the current employees’ jobs at Eagle Print and we hope increase employment opportunities in the near future with the additional capacity this equipment will offer. We are currently printing five of our own newspapers and shoppers here at Eagle Print. Those newspapers include the Delphos Daily Herald, Paulding Progress, Mercer County Chronicle, Sylvania Herald and Register Publications located in Lawrenceburg, Ind. We also do specialty printing jobs for our other newspapers within our group,” he concluded.
