Diltzes to lead festival parade
DELPHOS — When the Marbletown Festival parade rolls down Clime Street on Aug. 2, the third annual event will feature life-long residents Roger and Shirley Diltz as grand marshals.
Roger, who was born in Marbletown, said his family dates back to the turn of the century when his father lived in Marbletown.
Roger, 71, and Shirley (Hile) Diltz, 70, met many years ago when as Shirley said, “The Delphos boys came to Spencerville to see the girls there.” So the former Spencerville girl and Roger met and married on June 12, 1954.
Roger, a retired 33-year-veteran of Trim Trends, and Shirley, a housewife and a former Huffy employee, have been together for 54 years and raised 10 children.
The children of Roger and Shirley Diltz, the parade marshals for the upcoming Marbletown Parade, are Justin (Marsha) Diltz, Vicky Friemoth, Karen Schaffner, Cheryl (Dan) Lehmkuhle, Mark Diltz, Randy Diltz, Jim Diltz, Candy Brooks, Lyle Diltz and Misty Bowers. They also have 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In their retirement years, Roger enjoys putting out a vegetable garden, while Shirley enjoys her flowers in the summertime. During the winter, they both watch sports on the TV, with Shirley admitting to being a Cleveland Browns fan.
As far as being in the Marbletown parade, Roger plans on wearing his special hat while Shirley just “wants to see the parade” and hopes somebody will videotape it for her so she won’t miss a thing.
