Legion to send three to Buckeye Boys State
Three local boys will be attending Buckeye Boys State this coming week in Delaware.
Andrew Wieging, Adam Wollenhaupt and Zach Reindel have been chosen to attend the annual American Legion program. Delphos American Legion is sponsoring the three with Fort Jennings American Legion co-sponsoring Reindel.
Wieging is the son of Robert and Lorraine Wieging of Elida. He attends St. John’s High School where he is active in school athletics, band and NHS. He is active in Boy Scouts and achieved the Order of the Arrow. He won the Americanism contest for local and district levels.
Wollenhaupt is the son of Dave and Robin Wollenhaupt of Delphos. He attends Jefferson High School where he is active in school athletics and NHS.
Reindel is the son of Robert and Vicki Reindel of Delphos. He attends St. John’s High School where he is active in school athletics, NHS and band.
Buckeye Boys State program was first held in June of 1936 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds. The program is a nine-day course in self-government where participants learn how city, county and state government functions.
Buckeye Boys State was the third Boys State program chartered in the nation and today is the nation’s largest Boys State Program.
