1,500 to participate in 5th Mini Relay
DELPHOS — This year’s mini relay for life will kick off at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Franklin School. There will be approximately 1,500 students from Franklin, Landeck and St. John’s elementaries and Jefferson Middle School participating in the fifth annual event.
Pierce Street from Fifth to First streets will be blocked off for the event.
Twenty-five presenters are scheduled for the day with each classroom attending three workshops for their age group, besides walking laps and playing carnival games.
The presenters include: Mary Jo Zeisloft, “New Kids on the Block, Epilepsy”; Jill Hay, oral cancer and dental health; Bruce Parkins, oral cancer and smoking; Dr. Laux, posturing and bone health; LAHEK, nutrition — healthy snack selection cornhole game; and Lima Memorial Health, Cheryl Nagy, “What is Cancer?”
Also, LMH, Deb Gross, Healthy Living; LMH, Burlin Sherrick, Stem Cells/Cord Blood; Family Physicians of Lima, Dr. Sharp, breast self exams and testicular cancer; Allison Hammons, fitness stations; Dr. Lopez, cancer prevention; Dr. Morris, well care and natural restoration through Chiropractic; Father Mel Verhoff, grief; Michelle Tegenkamp CNP (Pediatrics of Lima,) health and nutrition; and Susan Gastenaue, two sessions of “Wise About Eyes.”
And, Nancy Bonifas RN, smoking cessation; Nancy Recker, “Laughter is Good Medicine”; Northwest Physical Therapy, fitness; Susan Warnecke, skin cancer; Gloria Murphy, bullying for kids; Missy Pohlman, bike safety; Kathy Gladfeller, nutrition; and Brenda Snyder, bicycle safety.
New to the event this year will be inflatables for the children to play on. They will be at St. John’s Elementary where closing ceremonies will be held in the afternoon.
