J. Franklin Kelly

J. Franklin Kelly, 86, of Holgate, died Thursday evening at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born Sept. 20, 1921, in New Bavaria to John and Cecilia (Flowers) Kelly.
On June 26, 1954, he married Glenna L. Ditto at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Timothy Kelly of New Bavaria, Terrance (Shelly) Kelly, Thomas (Mary Ann) Kelly and Todd (Chris) Kelly of Holgate; a sister, Mary Alice Whitney of Defiance; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Kelly; and a sister, Eileen Gustwiller.
Mr. Kelly was a farmer and retired Nov. 25, 1986. He then worked at Holgate Agri-Supply. While he lived in Delphos, he worked at Green and Sawyer and Lehmann’s Furniture. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate, and a World War II Army veteran, serving time in Japan. He was in the 1940 class at Holgate High School but received a Veteran High School Diploma in 2006. He was a member of Holgate American Legion Post 340, New Bavaria VFW Post 8847, New Bavaria AMVETS Post 599 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1757.
Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the New Bavaria VFW Post 8847 and Holgate American Legion Post 340.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Zachrich Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Holgate, 114 William St., Holgate, where a rosary service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate Athletic Boosters or donor’s choice.
