Microtel construction moving along
DELPHOS — Construction on the new three-story Microtel Inn and Suites at 480 Moxie Lane on the east edge of Delphos continues as crews work in, around and outside the facility.
Initiated by Group Properties LLC in June 2006, the building permit was granted for the 30,000-square-foot endeavor on Nov. 9.
Dry-walling is being done on the ground floor, while insulation is being installed on the second and third floors.
Bricklayers are working outside on the ground floor, laying bricks on the lower quarter of the floor.
Construction Manager Ken Miller of Alexander and Bebout, Inc., of Van Wert said the project is moving along smoothly and should be completed by mid-July.
Shower stall/tub combinations for each guest room had to be brought in by crane because they would not fit through any doors. The fixtures were brought in for each floor as they were framed out for rooms.
Some other notable features of the hotel are: 56 rooms including singles, doubles and suites; a 50-person conference room; reinforced framing that will withstand high winds; a secure entryway after normal desk hours with bulletproof glass and key-card access only; and a daily continental breakfast.
The facility also contains 34,000 feet of phone and cable lines; 1,000 4×12 sheets of drywall and 10,925 bricks.
The $3 million project will bring 14 full-time jobs to Delphos and offer a place to stay in Delphos for prospective businesspersons.
The new hotel may also spark other businesses in the immediate area.
“We have been told by Microtel to expect phone calls from restaurants, also. There are a group of them that follow hotel construction. So we’ll see if that happens,” a spokesman for Group Properties said.
Group Properties also has about an acre of land in reserve for expansion, should it become necessary.
Microtel is headquartered in Atlanta and currently has approximately 450 Microtels in operation.
