Delphos teen wins guitar in contest
DELPHOS — A Delphos teen who won a recent Guitar Hero contest was awarded his prize — a guitar, of course.
Rick Jacomet, 18, competed against 100 people on March 16 at Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert in the popular Wii computer game.
“I had played Guitar II a lot but I only had one day practice on Guitar III before the competition,” Jacomet said.
Contestants chose their own competition level and Jacomet picked the expert level, competing against eight others and winning the contest.
The stret form guitar Jacomet won was signed by band members from Brooke Barretsmith, Pillar and Waverly, who performed at the Arts Center on contest day.
Jacomet, son of Kim Rupert and Don Jacomet, loves music and has performed for seven years with the St. John’s High School band.
Since his win, he has been inspired to take guitar lessons and has another new guitar to practice with.
“My mom bought me a Gibson Maestro for my 18th birthday,” he smiled.
