Van Wert 4-H holds annual banquet

4-H is building today for a better tomorrow  was this year’s theme of the annual Van Wert County 4-H Banquet. Emceed by 4-H Council President Jay Gamble, and 4-H Endowment Chairmain, Robin Farris, the 4-H seniors were honored for active involvement with 4-H throughout their high school years and 4-H Volunteers were also recognized for their years of service.  Contributors to the Van Wert County 4-H Enrichment Fund were noted also.
A total of six $500 scholarships were given through the 4-H Enrichment Fund.  Receiving scholarships were Keri Routt, Brooke Myers, Austin Miller, Bryce Richey, Chelsey Lloyd and Ethan Enyart.
Routt is the daughter of Jeff and Lori Routt of Rockford. She is a 9-year member of the Willshire Wide Awake 4-H Club, where she has held many offices. She is an Ambassador, 4-H CarTeen, and she has qualified for State Fair many times with her leadership projects. Routt is a senior at Parkway H.S. and her plans include attending The University of Northwestern Ohio to major in Business Administration.
Myers is a senior at Crestview High School. She is the daughter of Randy and Betty Myers. She is a 10 year member of the Harrison Jolly Boosters 4-H Club. She is active in CarTeens, 4-H Ambassadors, Jr. Fair Board and has held many offices in her club. Myers’ plans include attending Indiana Wesleyan University.
Miller is the son of Dennis and Melanie Miller. He is a 10-year 4-H member, 8 years in the Leaders of the Future, and 2 years in the Outlaws. Miller is active in the Jr. Fair Board, 4-H Ambassadors, 4-H Camp Counselors and has been an officer in his club. He is a senior at Lincolnview High School. His plans are to attend Bowling Green State University and major in Vet Medicine.
Richey is the son of Gary Richey and Barb Miller. A 10-year member of the Harrison Jolly Boosters, he is active in club offices, Camp Counselor, Jr. Fair Board, CarTeens and the 4-H Interstate Exchange. He is a senior at Crestview High School. His plans include attending Bowling Green State University majoring in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology.
Lloyd is a 10-year member of the Venedocia Lads & Lassies. She is the daughter of Jeff and Kelly Lloyd. In 4-H, she has been  a camp counselor, active on the fashion board, Jr. Fair Board, Ambassador and CarTeens. Lloyd is a senior at Spencerville High School and plans to attend Ball State University and major in corporate communications and marketing.
Enyart is the son of Lionel Enyart and Keri Schwaller. He is a six-year member of the Young Riders and Jr. Leaders 4-H Clubs. He holds offices in each club. He is a senior at Van Wert High School. He plans to attend Ohio State University branch Campus and pursue a major in accounting.
4-H CarTeen scholarships were given to Myers, Gretchen Kiehl, Bryce Richey, Routt and Lloyd.
A Power Point presentation of the senior class which included snapshots over their 4-H years and early childhood was shown. Keri Anspach, a former Van Wert County 4-Her, gave a message on how 4-H has helped her “Make the Best, Better” throughout life. All seniors present received a memento for “going the distance” and staying in 4-H.
All 4-H Volunteers were honored. Those with increments of five years were Lori Ball, Bob Evans, Liz Gerdemann, Lisa Line, Ginny Marbaugh, and Sharon Sheets; 10 years — Ryan Adam, Kevin Black, Sue Hempfling, Ken Markward & Donna Pohlman; 15 years — Christine Heizman, Ruth Lape and Susan Mosier; 30 years — Rita Adam; 35-plus years — Carl Lape (36), Mary Ann Salway (38), Carrie Jellison (42) and Richard Jellison (54).
The banquet was held at the JEHMM”S Banquet Center and a delicious meal was provided.
Table Servers were 4-Her’s Logan Miller, Nick Routt, Morgan Miller, Nick Germann, Caleb Markward, Kyle Williams, Micah Germann and Amanda Lobsiger.   Committee members for the event were Vickie Wollenhaupt, Nancy Black, Jill McCoy, Carrie Jellison, Brenda DeLong, Kelly Lloyd, Jana Suman and Robin Farris. 4-H Endowment members are Jay Gamble, Robin Farris, Kendra Heffelfinger, Kelly Lloyd, Bob Evans, Morgan Miller, Betsy Rager, Chelsey Lloyd, Dennis Miller, Marilyn Jones and Rob Pond.
