Richard James Bendele

Richard James Bendele, 79, of Ottoville, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1928, to Martin and Lucy (Recker) Bendele.
On Oct. 22, 1948, he married Alice Menke, who preceded in death on Nov. 5, 2005.
Survivors include sons Daniel Bendele of Lakeland, Fla., Terry Bendele and Bruce (Lisa) Bendele of Ottoville and Martin (Angie) Bendele of Cloverdale; daughter Michelle Bigelow of Delphos; sisters Marty Gerdeman and Catherine Gudakunst of Ottoville; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Bendele; sister Marie Zerkle; and brothers Jerry, Jim, Peter, Paul and Salome Bendele.
Mr. Bendele was the owner of Bendele Electric in Ottoville and a former Ottoville Police Chief and auxiliary police officer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, the National Rifle Association and was an avid gunsman and hunter.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rev. John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home’s Jackson Township location, where a scripture service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Putnam County Hospice.
