Library battling leaking roof
DELPHOS — Leila Osting, was sworn into office as the newest member of the Delphos Public Library Board during their Wednesday afternoon meeting. She fills the vacancy created last year upon the retirement of Tom Hoersten.
Board members were presented with two proposals by Charlie Carroll of the SirsiDynix computer system to upgrade the existing system. The board will make a decision at the April board meeting. Members did approve the purchase of five monitors, one computer and a printer after Jane Sadler presented problems with the 10-year-old equipment.
The ongoing water leak problems with the library roof was discussed, with Library Director Nancy Mericle mentioning Cotterman won’t be able to replace the roof over the old section of the building until April or May. A leak was found in the new section which Mericle brought to the attention of M&W Construction, the contractor for the project. M&W stated they can’t work on the leak while the bricks are wet. Library employees noticed the leak in time to move books before any damage was done.
Mericle hopes once the roofing problems are resolved, board members will be able to purchase one or two new micro-film readers to replace the aging equipment in the genealogy room. Some work will also need to be done to the front steps of the library where areas are starting to crumble.
In other business, the board passed a motion approving the annual appropriation resolution.
Mericle noted in her monthly report that library patrons are using their services on a continually rising basis. She also mentioned a $500 contribution from the Optimists Club and a $200 contribution from the Delphos Ladies Club toward the Summer Reading Program.
