OTTOVILLE — It didn’t take long for the Ottoville Lady Green to gain control of their Putnam County League basketball contest with their rival Fort Jennings Thursday night at L.W. Heckman Gymnasium.
Seventh-ranked Ottoville (Division IV) scored the first 12 points of the contest en route to a 63-30 victory, improving their record to 13-1 overall and remaining a perfect 6-0 in the PCL.
Junior Tricia Honigford drained six 3-pointers, four in the third canto, to lead all scorers with 20 points, Senior Brittany Pohlman added 16 and classmate Gina Beining followed with 15 markers and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Katie Von Lehmden led all Lady Musketeer scorers with eight points; Jessica Ladd added seven in the effort.
Despite being down 19-12 after the first quarter, the Orange and Black made a bit of a run in the second frame, scoring the first six points and cutting the deficit to seven. The home team surged back to give them a 29-16 lead at the break.
Beining took over on the boards in the second and third quarters, pulling down seven of her total in the span.
The hosts took total control in the third stanza, outscoring their foe 23-4. Honigford got the hot hand from beyond the arc, with Pohlman nailing a long-range shot late in the third to put the Green up by 30.
Ladd hit the lone triple for Fort Jennings in the fourth for the guests.
