Richard A. Calvelage

Richard Arthur Calvelage, 87, formerly of Fort Jennings and Lima, died Dec. 19 at Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon, Mo.
He was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Fort Jennings, to Henry and Veronica Calvelage.
On Nov. 8, 1951, he married Elizabeth Steinberger, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include son John Calvelage of Billings, Mo; daughter Barbara Sederburg of Springfield, Mo; and granddaughters Andrea Wedge of Chicago and Tiffany Schneider of Springfield, Mo.
Mr. Calvelage owned a small butcher shop and meat locker rental facility before entering the military, serving the Army’s 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. He owned a farm near Lima and moved to Missouri after retiring in 1976. He was an advocate of healthy diet and exercise and kept his religious and political values.
Funeral services and burial were held Dec. 22 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Missouri.
