Amish Cook
By LOVINA EICHER
Today is Oct. 17, which would be my parents 50th wedding anniversary if they were still living. Sometimes I let my mind wander and wonder how life would be if they were still here with us. Then I think of our Great Heavenly Father and how He makes no mistakes. Why do I question His plans when I know “He” knows our future and has a reason for everything? Once again it reminds me of our human nature and how quickly we tend to question His ways. We need faith and prayers.
Joe’s Dad had his 69th birthday on Oct. 8. We couldn’t go for his birthday as a few of the children were sick that day. Hopefully we can still do something for his birthday soon. He went bear hunting recently with Joe’s sister Mary Ann’s husband, Jake, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We didn’t find out how it went yet but know he was looking forward to it.
Nephew Ben Shetler, age 24, was published to be married on Nov. 15 to a girl from Wisconsin. Ben would be my parents oldest grandchild. He is my sister Leah and Paul’s oldest child. Ben and Rose Marie plan to live in Wisconsin so this will make for an empty spot in the shelter home.
I was baking this afternoon which puts a nice smell into the air.. I put a roast and all the trimmings in the oven while I was baking so I’d have an easy supper. I baked bread, cinnamon rolls, apple pie and sugar cream pie.
We now have a big dumpster out beside the old house so things should start taking shape in the next week or so with tearing down our old house. Some neighbors are going to cart away half of the house for use as a shed. Joe still wants to take the chimney down in the part that the neighbors will move. Next we’ll get all the windows out in the part that gets torn down. What a relief it will be to have the old house gone!
We’ve been mowing the yard and cleaning up for the winter the past few evenings. The children are already enjoying the leaves and work hard to gather them all up in a pile. They have fun covering each other up. It makes the job of raking leaves a little more interesting. We still haven’t had a frost yet this fall.
As I write this it is evening and the rest of the family is sleeping, I think I will join them now. Good night!
