SPENCERVILLE — New Knoxville improved to 2-2 overall Tuesday night, taking care of homestanding Spencerville in four games, 25-14, 20-25, 25-11, 25-13 at the New Closet in Spencerville.
“New Knoxville just killed us with their service game and their depth,” Bearcat coach Tom Wegesin stated.
The Rangers’ attack was led by 5-11 junior Morgan Reineke, who torched the young Bearcats all night long with 21 kills and five blocks. Senior 5-7 teammate Natasha Fullenkamp hurt the ’Cats as well, finishing with nine digs, eight kills and five aces. Jena Braden added seven kills to the Rangers’ effort and Jyulia Naseman five kills and two blocks.
New Knoxville took care of business early in the first frame and never looked back in winning the opener.
Game 2 saw an almost different opponent across the net. The Bearcats (1-2) jumped out to a 13-5 lead followed by a Knoxville timeout. Seniors Rachel Fell (9 kills; 5 digs) and Audrey Hobbs (3 aces; 5 kills) did much of the damage, helping the home squad even up the match.
From that point on, the Rangers would never look back in finishing off the home team for a 3-1 victory.
“This was a great non-conference test for our club,” Wegesin added. “It really allowed the girls to get the feel of what it’s like playing a good team like New Knoxville. We must continue to improve.”
Helping the Bearcats’ effort were Allison Moeller (3 aces; 7 digs), Caitlin Klima (2 aces; 2 digs), Amanda Brenneman (3 kills), Jerrica Hanjora (8 digs) and Devon Keysor (5 kills).
For New Knoxville, Bethany Howe (2 aces), Brooke Niemeyer (4 aces) and Olivia Meyer (5 digs) contributed solid efforts.
Spencerville is next in the Kalida Pioneer Invitational Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m.
The Lady Rangers also won the junior varsity contest 25-3, 25-11.
