Mary E. Carr, 87, of Skokie, Ill., died Aug. 10 at Rush North Shore Medical Center, Skokie.
She was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Delphos, to Helen and Albert Scherger.
She married John E. Carr in 1939. He survives.
Other survivors include four children, Carol (Tom) Wood, Kathleen (Kurt) Roderer, Kevin (Jayne) Carr, Ken Carr; 11 grandchildren, John and James Carr, Jennifer Redman, Wendy Briseno, Amy DuVall, Kimberly, Kristine, Karoline and Kelly Roderer and Sean and Shane Carr; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two children, Jack Carr and Suzanne Carr; and two sisters, Margaret Mitchell and Marian Harms.
Mrs. Carr was an honor student at Rosary Catholic School and a member of the class of 1936 at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo. She attended the Davis Business College and worked in insurance for a few years. She was a long-time member of the Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association, active in the Altar Society, Women’s Auxiliary and Parent-Teacher Association of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. When she and her husband retired, they moved to Florida, where she was involved in the Lakewood Home Association, serving as secretary for a number of years and was a member of St. Ann’s Parish in Naples. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, gardening and spending time with her family.
Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 8 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2255 Central Grove, Toledo. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Toledo.
Preferred memorials are to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School Scholarship Fund.
