LETTER TO EDITOR
DEAR EDITOR:
We would like to take this opportunity to give an end of summer reading program report and share with you the many highlights.
Last night, the program culminated with a swim party at the Delphos Swimming Pool. One hundred twenty-one kindergarten through fifth-graders earned admission to the party by reading at least 90 minutes a week for six weeks. Of that 121, 91 were able to attend the party. The total minutes read by this group was 134,032.
During the six-week program, the K-5 students turned out for a visit from Officer Klaus from the Delphos Police Department, a concert with members of the Lima Symphony Orchestra and a magic show performed by Jordan Rode. We also performed plays, worked with secret codes and played the parachute game.
One hundred two preschoolers joined the summer program to attend Storytime Plus each week. This lively group enjoyed music and stories, a visit by clowns Merci and Grace, making sun visors and fingerprint booklets and a treasure hunt to find gold coins.
Fourteen young people joined the Teenread Book Club, which made for lively discussion at our lunch time together. Also, 22 families have played the popular Family Bingo game to win different prizes. When all the events were added together, total attendance was 1,522.
We would also like to thank all our wonderful sponsors, which you can find listed on our web site at www.delphos.lib.oh.us under the Summer Reading icon. These groups have made this quality of program possible. Also, a huge thank you is sent to our volunteers Sally Kiggins, Nicole Abram, Amber Miller, Mackenzie Hoehn, Victoria Recker, Jessica Recker, Meghan Ryba and Kevin Stewart.
Cathy and I have greatly enjoyed our time spent with each group this summer and look forward to their continued visits to the library.
Sincerely,
Denise Cressman and Cathy Hellman
