Bunge North America begins construction on a new soybean unloading station, at right, at its processing plant in Delphos.DELPHOS — Bunge North America has announced it is building a new soybean unloading station at its processing plant in Delphos.
Construction on the station is expected to be completed in the beginning of September.
“The new location on the west side of the plant provides a better staging area so we will be able to reduce truck traffic on city streets,” said Mel Holder, plant manager at Delphos. “We are also installing state-of-the-art dust-control systems that will complement our other significant investments in dust monitoring systems.”
While the project will not increase the capacity of the plant, it will nearly double the rate at which crews can unload trucks.
“The new unloading station will enable Bunge to provide more efficient service to our customers delivering beans,” Mark Scheumann, merchandising manager for Delphos, said. “Particularly during harvest, it is important that our farmers are able to quickly unload and get back into the field.”
To minimize disruptions, construction is being done during the plant’s annual maintenance shutdown which began today. In addition to building a new soybean unloading station, crews will also raze the old headhouse which is no longer needed.
