Elmer E. “Bud” Freund, 82, of Delphos, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday at his residence.
He was born Feb. 24, 1925, on the family farm north of Delphos, to Elmer and Mabel (Mox) Freund.
On Aug. 28, 1949, he married Margene M. (VanDemark) Freund of Delphos.
Survivors include son Timothy (Joyce) Freund of Petersburg, Mich.; daughters Jane (Bruce) Clevenger and Amy (Larry) Miller of Delphos, Elaine (Fred) Twigg of Rockford and Christine (Rob) Fischer of Malvern; sister Susan (Richard) Kesler of Centerville, Ga.; brother John (Marlene) Freund of Van Wert; grandchildren Jason (Laura) Clevenger of Findlay, Gretchen (Todd) Corban of Columbus, Nathan (Becky) Freund of Cincinnati, Rebecca Freund of Charlotte, N.C., Emily and Madelyn Fischer of Malvern and Joshua, Tyler and Alyssa Miller of Delphos; and great-grandchildren Owen Clevenger and Alexandra Corban.
He was also preceded in death by sisters Naomi Welsch and Lucille Kaufman.
Mr. Freund was a dairy farmer. He was also a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School for more than 50 years and served on the church council. His Church was a very important part of his life, where he was baptized, confirmed, married and will be buried. He was also a member of the Van Wert County Registered Holstein Association and enjoyed tutoring through the United Way for many years.
Funeral services will begin at noon Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Rev. Katherine Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the church’s improvement fund or Lima Area Habitat for Humanity houses in Delphos.
