Donald L. Slate, 68, of Delphos, died at 8:55 a.m. Monday at St. Rita’s Hospital.
He was born Oct. 17, 1938, in Petersburg, Va., to John Wesley and UnaVae (Davis) Slate.
In 1987, he married Ruth Joseph.
Survivors include sons Donald and Robert Slate of Arkansas and Marcus (Nicki) Slate of Delphos; daughters Sharon Nemire, Karen Rostorfer, Debbie (Robert) Talboom and Cynthia (Paul) Miller of Delphos and Becky (Scott) Shelly of Alaska; sisters Charlotte (Gene) Higgins of California and Wesley (John) Webb of Virginia; brother John (Elizabeth) Slate of Virginia; stepdaughters Julie Craig of Delphos and Beth (Gene) Maag of Fort Jennings; stepsons John Foust of Delphos and Dennis (Elizabeth) Foust of Bryan; and 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Slate; and great-grandson Landon Foust.
Mr. Slate was retired from Lakeview Farms, loved bingo, fishing and playing cards.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, pastor Wayne Prater officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday and for an hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the family.
