Grove baseball drops 2

MONTPELIER — Columbus Grove’s baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Montpelier Saturday morning and afternoon at Montpelier.
The home team (2-4) won 8-3 and 11-8.
In game 1, Zach Gerdeman took the loss for the Bulldogs. He gave up seven hits and seven runs, three earned, while fanning five and walking two in four innings. Brandon Hovest gave up three hits and an unearned run in two frames of relief.
Lamberson got the win for Montpelier, going the distance in yielding seven hits and three runs (2 earned). He fanned six and walked one.
In game 2, losing pitcher J.J. Harris was again the victim of poor defense, surrendering 10 runs but only four earned in 5 1/3 innings. He gave up 11 hits. Adam Osterhage threw 2/3 of an inning in ceding 2 hits and an earned run.
Siebenaler got the win in four innings of relief. He gave up three hits and three runs (2 earned), whiffing six and walking three.
Grove (0-4) hosts Crestview tonight in Northwest Conference action.

Jeffcat JV 2-0
Jefferson’s JV baseball team opened the season with a 12-8 victory over LCC March 27  in Delphos.
Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth, the ’Cats rallied for five runs in securing the Northwest Conference victory.
Leading the Wildcats’ offense were Adam Kraning 3-for-4, Craig Carder 2-for-4, Taylor Hesseling 2-for-4 and Austin Clarkson 2-for-4.
Carder picked up the win in relief as he pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (1 earned) on four hits, striking out six and walking three.
LCC fell to 0-2 on the season.

The Jeffcats moved to 2-0 as Hesseling and Carder combined to no-hit Allen East Saturday morning and a 5-0 NWC victory in a rain-shortened 5-inning affair.
Hesseling struck out seven during the first four innings while walking three. Carder struck out the side in the fifth before the rain halted the contest.
Leading the ’Cats’ offense were Ryan Kortokrax 1-for-2, Matt Gerdeman 1-for-2, Carder 1-for 3, Adam Wollenhaupt 1-for-2 and Brayton Kruse 1-for-2 (double).
Jefferson will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Columbus Grove. Game time is 5 p.m.
