Miller, Merschman still in top eight
COLUMBUS — Stuart Miller won’t be battling for the 189-pound state crown today.
He will be in the hunt for the bronze thanks to Attica Seneca East’s Alex Hughes.
The senior who previously handed the Jefferson sophomore his only loss in 2006-07, did it again Friday night in the Division III state championship semi-finals at the Schottenstein Center.
Head Coach Jeff Rex briefly summed up the 9-3 loss.
“Hughes wrestled a good match; the better wrestler won. That’s a senior against a sophomore in the state tournament,” he commented.
Miller (51-2) will wrestle in the consolation semis this morning.
Miller took his second step toward the 189-pound podium earlier in the day Friday as he pinned Jared Neff of Apple Creek Waynedale at 2:31 of their championship quarterfinal matchup.
“I wanted to get it over as quickly as I could since I knew I’d have to wrestle again later in the day. I wanted to give myself as much recovery time as possible.
