Schulte staying put
DELPHOS — St. John’s head football coach Todd Schulte agonized over the weekend with a dilemma: do I accept the head football position at Van Wert High School or do I stay put?
After much soul-searching, discussion and weighing the pros and cons, he decided to remain as the Blue Jays’ head man.
“No question, it was a tough decision. There were some good points to accept the job at Van Wert and to keep it at St. John’s,” he began. “One moment, my wife and I were ready to go; the next, we were ready to stay. Not getting into the particulars about each school, we felt that we were in a pretty good situation here at St. John’s. Delphos is a nice place to live and raise a family.
“My wife and I talked a lot about what was best for our family at this time and we talked to others. There was a combination of factors that went into this; let’s just say that we feel we’re where we need to be at this time of our lives.”
The decision marks the conclusion of a process that has seen rampant rumors and speculation about Schulte’s future and the future of both schools’ football programs.
“I had heard congratulations from people who thought I had already decided to jump to Van Wert. It seemed that everybody wanted to know one way or the other, so this decision answers those questions,” he added. “It also feels nice that people are so concerned about you and that Van Wert thought highly enough of me to offer me the job.
“Now, I can get back to work to do the things that we need to do to keep the success of St. John’s football going. It’s a relief to actually get this over with so we can focus on working hard and getting things done.”
